Aaron Swartz

Aaron Swartz was a computer programmer in the United States. On January 13, 2013 he was found dead in his apartment in Brooklyn, New York. Aaron had hung himself. There are many talked about reasoning’s for his death but no one knows for sure why he did what he did. His girlfriend at the time, Taren Stinebrickner-Kauffman, said it could have been from exhaustion, fear and uncertainty (Franceschi-Bicchierai, 2013). Aaron had an ongoing case since he was convicted on 2 counts of wire fraud and 11 violations of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act 2 years and 2 days prior to his death (“Aaron swartz,” 2014).

This says that the Intellectual Property (IP) Law can be altered. The IP Law is he rights o the creations of the mind. Aaron was being trialed for his own works of arts. If the government thinks someones knows “too much” about something they will change their own laws just because they can (Alpers, 2013).

Privacy Information

Privacy concerns on social media cites are a big concern today. You can find out almost anything from their phone number to where they live to what kind of car they drive. No one intends on the information given on these social media cites to be used in the wrong intention. They just have it out there so that people can know a little bit about them. But without their knowing it could be used in the wrong way.

A show called Catfish, which talks about people who had Internet relationships with people that was not really them due to stolen information, is a scenario of what could go wrong. Information such as phone numbers, addresses or personal information like credit/debit card numbers or social security numbers should not be published for others to see. Giving out your birthday should be the furthest you go with giving out information.

Social Media vs. Traditional Media

Social media has become a big part of this generation. Slowly, social media cites, like Instagram and Twitter, are becoming more of a way of finding out current events in the world. Since people are so busy with their everyday lives it may be difficult for one to sit down and watch the news or read the newspaper. Social media apps are easier to find out information on considering while people are in travel all they do is click on the app and immediately can see other people posting about what is going on in the world.

Between Twitter and Instagram, Twitter is an easier way to discover world news. Instagram is more an app which people can upload pictures and short videos which is more for keeping memories instead of informing others on what is happening in the world.  With Twitter you can follow news accounts, such as CNN, MSNBC or FOX, and those accounts can post current events. The only downfall of using Twitter is one of your friends could provide you with false information. In that case watching he news first-hand would be more informative (even though the media alters information provided by not giving you the full story, therefore, making you feel a specific way).
