Uprisings of the World

With the uprising in Egypt many people were killed and far more were injured. The citizens of Egypt tried to overthrow the government because they wanted a more democratic way of governing. Media did influence the uprising because it brought democracy to the citizen’s attention. Watching or reading how other parts of the world were governed gave these citizens the idea that they wanted to live like that as well. So, they rebelled against the government and media fueled to the fire of the uprising.  (Jazeera)

Similar to the uprising that was taking place in Egypt; Syrian citizens felt the same way. They wanted democratic and economic reform within the existing government. It was far bloodier than the Egyptian up rise. Death tolls exceeded 100,000 in just two and a half years. Media definitely had a part in affecting this up rise. Syrian people figured if the people in Egypt took matters in their own hands, why couldn’t they. (“Syrian civil war,” 2013)

STEM subjects

STEM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering and math. It is said that those four subjects are imperative for kids to learn while studying in school. It is the best field to get into because the amount of available jobs and the positive impact it has on the economy.

Compared to other jobs, STEM jobs actually pay more. The average mid-career pay for someone with a STEM job was $112,000. For all majors combined, the average mid-career pay for these people was only $72,000 (Bardaro, 2013).

How computers play a role in every field of study

I am majoring in Communications and minoring in Business Administration. I was originally going to major in Business Administration because my father pushed it onto me. I finally talked to him and told him I did not want to major in business and he allowed me to switch my major. I chose Communications because the science of communicating intrigues me. Even though I am only planning on getting my Bachelors in it and eventually going to school to be a Chiropractor after, I figured it would be good for the time being.

Computers play a role in every class. I had to take an IT class and we had to work with Microsoft Access and Microsoft Excel creating data sheets. Also, in a lot of my classes I need to do projects or presentations and to be on my A game I need to do research. That is where computers come in. Computers allow me to search the web and find thousands of different references a lot faster and easier than using a book or other piece of literature.

Civic Duty

Being a citizen is about being apart of something great. You get to choose what type of citizen you are by where you choose to live. Every country has its own set of laws that are not similar to other countries. What other countries think of you is based on your actions. Citizens of different countries act different than one another based on how they are raised and based off governing laws. What may seem right to a citizen of one country may seem totally disrespectful to citizen of another country.

Civic duty is more of a moral thing. Some people may find it a must to hold the door open for others when some may feel that what makes others more important than they are that he/she must hold the door open for them. Like the constitution states, no one really has to do anything. It doesn’t mean they wont get punished for it, but they have the ability to do as they please. I believe civic duty only exist in a portion on the words population who feel they must give back to others because they have been given so much in life.
